To those who speak American, I am not religious. At best, a poetic pagan, smiling open-palmed at the sun. But to those who speak the river's language, mountain-speak, of flowers slowly turning their tongues to the sky, I am the brightest of divine light, singing hymns to the rhythm of wind and water, tasting salty air as my communion. I smile my prayers, laugh my verses, and breathe the chorus. If I were to apologize for my behavior, it would be with poems, offering armfuls of words as my sheepish bouquet. Today is not that day. I go the only way I know how.
